Bupa Gives to Charity
Bupa is the largest private health insurance provider in the United Kingdom. It also seems to put a lot back, both into the community and into improving clinical knowledge.
Community Connections
Bupa support people in volunteer projects in their local community. In 2008 Bupa Group gave £5.3 million to UK charities. This is a particularly special year: They are celebrating their 60th anniversary. They are extending their work overseas and giving £9 million pounds, over the next three years, to help international charitable causes.
Staff Volunteering
Bupa encourage their own staff to volunteer and last year 3984 people gave up their time to help others.
The Bupa staff also man the phones during Comic Relief.
Bupa Foundation:
The Bupa Foundation is an independent medical research charity that funds medical research to prevent, relieve and cure sickness and ill health. The Foundation aims to produce long-term benefits that have the potential to improve the health of individuals across the UK.
Bupa gave the Foundation £2.5m pounds last year. Funds are used for two things:
Clinical Research Grants
surgical research and development,
epidemiology and preventive medicine,
communication and health information between health professionals and patients,
mental health of older people
health at work
Foundation Awards
These go mainly to NHS hospital research. £15,000 is awarded to each project as a reward and to help with future research. Awards are given in the following areas:

clinical excellence
care
patient safety
Sports Events
Bupa supports lots of sport events over the course of the year. It holds ten runs. The details of this years events are shown below:

This year the proceeds for most of the events are going the their nominated charity The Alzheimer's Society.
