Specific Health Insurance Policies

One way to cut the cost of your health insurance policy is to look into some of the very specific policies that are available and see if they fit in with your current needs. Here are some of the options:

Retirement Health Cover. These policies usually cover people who are over the age of 55. Often regular medical insurance policy quotes tend to go up significantly once you are over the age of 50 but with these particular policies the premiums are lower because the policy concentrates on less conditions that are more relevant to that age group.

Axa PP Healthcare have a policy called Retirement Essentials and this covers treatment for heart conditions, arthritic joint replacement, inguinal hernias and cataracts. It covers people over 55 and any partner included in the policy can be of any age. They also have a policy which is aimed at 65 and overs which just covers you for accidents and falls. According to AXA almost 50% of people suffering fractures in 2003-2004 were aged 60 and over.

Another very specific policy is Bupa's Select Heart and Cancer Policy. What is useful about this product is that Heart problems and Cancer are the causes of most deaths in the UK. This policy covers you for eligible cancers and acute heart conditions and includes organ transplants related to these two conditions.

AXA Healthcare PPP also provide a medical insurance policy just for children. AXA PPP Healthcare's head of product management, Geoff Salter,, said: "First Healthcare is for people who may not be able to afford private healthcare cover for their whole family but who want to make sure their children are covered. It will give parents peace of mind knowing that their children can be seen promptly as a private patient."

Another group of people that can be catered for by specific policies are students. Freedom provide a policy for students only. If you go with this medical insurance provider you have the added advantage of receiving cash so that you can choose where to be treated. This means that premiums can be kept down and you can get very cheap medical insurance from them.

The main thing to take from this blog is to see that there are many specific policies available which may suit you better than the generic overall policies that are available. An insurance specialist would be best placed to advise you about what is available that might be suitable for your needs.
