SmokeFree NHS Campaign

The NHS has launched a nationwide six-week stop smoking campaign called SmokeFree. Smoking is expensive at nearly £5 for a packet of 20 cigarettes and, as reported in Health Insurance News UK, smoking is one of the things which may affect your private health insurance premium costs. So, stopping isn't just good for your health but also for your pocket.

Caroline Flint, Public Health Minster said, 'Many smokers are aware of the danger smoking poses to their own health, but do not consider the knock-on effect for their families and friends. I am confident that the uncompromising message of this campaign will hit home with many smokers.'

The NHS offers a comprehensive stop smoking service. It includes one-to-one and group counselling sessions. They can send you support materials via the post or you can speak to an advisor over the phone or receive email or even text supports. TheSmokeFree website provides an access point for a variety of tools including a calculator which helps you to calculate how much you will save if you give up.

This latest hard hitting campaign features a real woman named Trudi Endersby, a mother of two, who has a rare form of incurable lung cancer caused by smoking. The campaign will be featured on TV, radio and the national press. Local radio will also be promoting the campaign in The Big Quit where stations will team up with their local NHS Stop Smoking Services in an attempt to get people to give up.
